Antaya Technologies Corp. is proud to announce a partnership with Vitro, S.A. de C.V. of Nuevo Leon, Mexico in launching glass for the new Hummer H3T with lead free connectors. In keeping with a commitment that is shared by General Motors and Antaya Technologies Corp. to remove lead from on glass connectors, Vitro has announced that the on glass electrical connectors for the Hummer H3T will feature lead free solder from Antaya.
“By removing the lead from the solder used on the Hummer, which is not traditionally thought of as a “green” vehicle, is certainly sending a message from General Motors about their commitment to removing toxic substances from their vehicle lineup,” comments John Pereira President of Antaya Technologies Corp. The Hummer is the first of many programs that Vitro plans to launch with lead free solder from Antaya over the next several months.

Antaya Technologies announced today the opening of a new lead free solder processing facility. The facility is fully equipped to handle what is expected to be a sharp rise in lead free solder processing.
“With the addition of a new entirely lead free solder line in Pawtucket, Rhode Island we have dramatically expanded our capacity. Antaya is now capable of servicing all the lead free needs of the global automotive industry far into the future,” states Stephen Antaya Vice President of Antaya Technologies Corp.
The average vehicle uses less than 2g of lead free solder – So, Antaya can now produce enough lead free solder for 450 million vehicles. The new facility in Rhode Island has a capacity of 2 million pounds of material per year, that is more than 900,000 kg of lead free solder capacity.

Antaya Technologies, based in Rhode Island, USA, specialist in automotive glass electrical connectors, has developed a lead-free alternative for automotive glass connectors. The lead is replaced by Indium to fulfil the requirements of the ELV-Directive – the abandonment of heavy metals – also on glass connectors. The lead-free product has the identically qualities as leaded ones. Pre-fluxed, pre-soldered terminators, connectors and wire assemblies supply power to the heat grids of rear windscreens and are also used to demister front screens. They are also used to contact silver print antenna patterns. To find an alternative for lead, Antaya first replaced lead by tin, afterwards supplemented indium, then adapted the coefficient of thermal expansion and finally reduced the allotment of Indium of the alloy again. The lead-free connectors are used in the same way and with the same tools as the leaded versions. |
